New line, used line or local fabrication

A coating shop has three ways to get a booth, an oven or a line: buy new equipment engineered to the parts, buy a used line and adapt to it, or have a local workshop weld a booth and buy an oven separately. Each is the right answer in some situations. This page lists the criteria we would use ourselves, so you can decide before you ask us for a quote.

New, engineered to your part

When it is the right route

Parts, throughput or compliance matter: a part family that will not change soon, a line speed you have to hold, a customer audit, an EU permit or an import conformity file.

Cost

Highest purchase price; known operating cost; warranty of one year on the equipment.

Time

Four to six weeks for a booth or box oven, eight to twelve weeks for a line, plus installation.

Used line

When it is the right route

A line whose part envelope, line speed and documentation match yours exactly, from a seller who can show the drawings, the electrical scheme and the conformity file.

Cost

Lowest purchase price; unknown insulation, filter and burner condition; dismantling, transport and reinstallation on top; no warranty.

Time

Days to buy, weeks to months to re-engineer; a line without documentation cannot be CE-marked again without a new technical file.

Local fabrication plus a bought oven

When it is the right route

A temporary booth for occasional work, where extraction, ATEX components and filtration standards are not required by the permit or the customer.

Cost

Low booth price; oven price separate; integration, ducting and controls on your side.

Time

Short, until the first problem: uneven cure, powder in the shop, a permit inspection.

Where we stand

We build new equipment, so read the table with that in mind. Two of the lines we have installed started as used equipment the customer had bought; both needed new insulation, new filters and a new electrical panel before they ran to specification. If you are considering a used line, send us its drawings and photographs and we will tell you what it would take.

Undecided between the three routes

Send photographs of your parts and of the used line if there is one. We say which route we would take in your place.
